Obituary for Jerry Brickner Gerald Cletus “Jerry” Brickner, 72, of Delphos, died at 4:55 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Mercy-St. Rita’s Medical Center Hospice, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 7, 1945 in Lima, to Harold J. and Katherine (Sauber) Brickner who preceded him in death.

On June 23, 1973, he married Carolyn S. Loudin who survives. Also surviving are their children: Melissa (Wade) Shamblin of Sidney, Stephanie (Chadd) Barney of Wabash, IN and Michael (Heather) Brickner of Delphos; grandchildren: Leah (Zach) Schuh, Andy Shamblin, Clay Shamblin, Adriana Shamblin, Gabriella Shamblin, Soleada Shamblin, Alexis “Lexi” Brickner, Braden Barney, Rylee Barney, Macy Barney, Dalton Barney, Lillian Barney, Grace Brickner and Sophia Brickner; a great-grandchild, Maebree Schuh; and siblings: Thomas (Marcey) Brickner of Delphos, James (Ruth) Brickner of Benton, LA and Judy (Herm) Maag of Ft. Jennings.

Jerry retired after forty-seven years of service to CenturyLink (formerly Embarq, Sprint and United Telephone). He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during Viet Nam. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, where he was an usher and Eucharistic Minister.

He belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #1362, Delphos and the Telephone Pioneers. He was a former treasurer for Delphos Little League and coached the minor league Reds for many years. Jerry was an honorable family man with a servant’s heart, always putting others first.

He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He loved to be outdoors gardening, mowing, feeding his squirrels and birds. He also loved watching the Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes and attending his grandchildren’s events.

He will be greatly missed by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Andrew J. Wellmann officiating, with military rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where the K. of C. will hold a rosary at 7:15 p.m. and a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Jerry’s family requests that you wear casual clothing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Scholarship Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
