It is with great sadness that the family of Jessie Charles announces her passing on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at the age of 92 years. Jessie will be remembered by her daughter, Dhanam Samuel, her son-in-law, Gilbert Samuel, and her two granddaughters and their husbands, Ponnila and Mark Marinescu, and Parimala and Andrew Stephens. Jessie is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Apparow Charles.

Raised in Burma and India during the years prior to and during the Second World War, Jessie Charles experienced life with vivaciousness, strength, and courage. She married in 1944 and traveled throughout India, becoming fluent in three languages over the course of her travels. In 1985, she immigrated to the United States.

She became an American Citizen in 1997 and remained in the country with her daughter’s family, helping to bring up her two grandchildren. She was well loved for her wit, tenacity, and unconditional devotion to her family and friends. A Funeral Service in memory of Jessie Charles will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 9 :30 a.m. at the Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, Maine 04005.

Reverend Deborah Breault will be officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco. In lieu of flowers those who so desire may make donations in memory of Jessie Charles to the Sam L Cohen Center,30 Barra Road, Biddeford, Maine 04005, where Jessie was warmly welcomed, cherished and cared for.
