November 3, 1957 — June 6, 2018 Jim Ketter passed away peacefully on the morning of June 6th, 2018. A passionate storyteller, his constant ability to add an entertaining twist to the normalcy of life will be missed by those closest to him. He dedicated his life to education, first at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Kansas City and later, at both Linn Benton Community College and Oregon State University.

In addition to his regular duties at OSU, he would often volunteer to help position telescopes for the astronomy department. Jim was always happiest when with his family, whether it be biking with his children and grandchildren or playing guitar around a fire. Throughout his battle with cancer, he surrounded himself with family.

He spent his remaining days working on projects for his wife and children. He loved walking his dogs and could frequently be found wandering the sidewalks and trails of Albany, rain or shine. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Virginia Ketter; his sister, Barbara Hahn; and his two brothers-in-law, Ron Brown and Dick Messbarger, as well as his loving former dogs Sam, Fletcher, Zeke, Gus and Scout.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Ketter; his children and their spouses: Jacob Ketter and Deborah Richman, Sarah and Daniel Umscheid and Lucas and Brittany Ketter; his siblings and their spouses: David and Jean Ketter, Joan Brown, Judy and Dan Morr, Carolyn Messbarger, Bruce Hahn and, most importantly, his above average grandchildren: Adelai, Henry, and Emily Umscheid, and Kate Ketter. He also left behind his two dogs, Amos and Jade, and his granddogs: Marlowe, Ripley, and Ollie. A celebration of life will take place Saturday July 14 from 2pm-5pm at Deluxe Brewing: 635 NE Water Ave.

Albany, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the Ketter’s have asked that donations be made to the Albany Parks and Recreation Foundation in Jim’s name. To send flowers or a remembrance gift to the family of Jim Ketter, please visit our Tribute Store.
