Jimmie’s Obituary God blessed our family on September 28, 1945 with the birth of Jimmie Lee Smith. He was born and raised in Perthshire, Mississippi to the late William Smith and Senie Clay who preceded him in death. Jimmie was the youngest of three children, one brother, Willie Smith and one sister, Bernice Warren (preceded him in death).

Jimmie moved his family to Chicago in the late 60’s. He lived on both the West Side of Chicago and in Harvey, Illinois where he made this his final residence. Jimmie believed strongly in God and confessed his belief late in life.

Jimmie worked over forty years and retired as a Maintenance Mechanic from Jeffereson Smurfit. He was a hard working man who loved his family and friends. He loved unconditionally and would help anyone.

He was a father figure to many. He loved sports but mostly his heart belonged to the Chicago Cubs. Jimmie was affectionately known as “The Man”.

Jimmie departed this life on January 15, 2019 in the presence of his immediate family at Ingalls Memorial Hospital.
