Obituary for Jimmy Parrish Jimmy Alvin Parrish, 70, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018. Born September 26, 1947 he was the son of the late Alvin King Parrish and Margaret Virginia Horne Parrish and also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Wayne Parrish and his faithful four-legged companion, Shelly. Jimmy is survived by his beloved Susan J. Redford; son, Eric Andrew Parrish and wife, Christy; grandchildren, Tyler and Alyssa Parrish of Colonial Heights; son, Steven Noel Parrish of Richmond; daughter, Lori Parrish Chappelle of Myrtle Beach, SC and five more grandchildren; a sister, Rose Parrish Blanchard of Pass Christian, Mississippi.

He is also survived by daughters, Jennifer Wells Schott of Colonial Heights, Brandy Wells Damron and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Gabrielle Mirro, Brooke and Harrison Damron all of Prince George. Jimmy was a member of Ettrick United Methodist Church where he served on several boards and as their soundman for Sunday services. Jimmy was a member of the Colonial Heights Jaycees and Colonial Heights Lions Club and served at various offices within those clubs.

Jimmy retired from C & P Telephone Company after 30 years of service, worked at golf courses on the Outer Banks and as a journeyman electrician. He retired from the Treasurer’s office with the City of Colonial Heights, served on the Historical Commission and the Electoral Board for the City of Colonial Heights. Jimmy had many interests which included grillmeister and a love for cooking.

He enjoyed playing golf, saltwater fishing and the beach. He was an avid car fan and in his early life participated in drag racing to which he won many awards. He enjoyed gardening in his backyard, creating beautiful stained-glass pieces, and at the age of 65, fulfilled his passion to learn to play the guitar.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1901 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805 with the Reverend Bob Lamb officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, May 4, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
