Joan Carol Clapp, 83, of Spiceland passed away in her home while with family on Saturday, February 16, 2019. She was born September 17, 1935 in Rushville, a daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth (Foster) Houchins. A 1953 graduate of Spiceland High School, she worked at Houchins Grocery in Spiceland, Knightstown Soldiers and Sailors Home, and was a cook at the Spiceland Elementary School.

An avid sports fan, she loved the Colts, Pacers and the Cincinnati Reds. She also loved the Smoky Mountains, her cat Pebbles, and enjoyed the casino. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 64 years, Bob L. Clapp of Spiceland, whom she married on her birthday in 1954; children, Carol (Steve) Johnson of Spiceland, Greg (Kebe) Clapp of Falmouth, Laurie (Jamie) Hamilton of Knightstown, and Sandy Breese (Gary Van Schoyck) of Rushville; nine grandchildren, Heather Hamilton (Kristen McGuire) of Spiceland, Brandon (Amanda) Johnson of Indianapolis, Ben Hamilton of Indianapolis, Sara (Pat) Booth of Pendleton, Dana Martin of Indianapolis, Darcy Grady of Anderson, Casey (Kyle) Brown of Knightstown, Carmen (Zach) Bowling of Indianapolis, Morgan Breese (Anthony Huffman) of Milroy; great grandchildren, P.J. and Shelby Booth, Cayden Moore, Preslee Brown, and Joanie Bowling; a brother, Larry Houchins of Spiceland, a brother in law, Charles Halcomb of Knightstown; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Clapp and Danny Clapp, and a sister, Sharon Halcomb. Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Carol Wiley officiating.

Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Greenfield/Hancock Animal Management, 809 S. State St., Greenfield, IN 46140 or the Rushville Animal Shelter, 223 Smitley Ave.
