Obituary for Joan Cecilia Gillgannon Joan Cecilia Gillgannon, 60, died suddenly at her home in Cheyenne on May 26, 2018. Joan was born in Cheyenne August 5, 1957, to John and Jeanne Gillgannon (Futvoye). Joan grew up in Cheyenne and attended St Mary’s grade and high school prior to earning her Ph.
D at the University of Hard-Knocks. Struggles galore no more. Quite creative and a fantastic gardner, Joan could take the drabbest canvas, piece of jewelry, or backyard weed patch, and make an artist’s palette seem dull by comparison.
She even made brilliant tie-dyed shirts for her seven siblings for no reason other than they needed to jazz the wardrobe up a bit. Never one to hide her light under a bushel, Joan was happy talking smartly with you about politics and current events—never failing to note the flaws in your argument; she could weave a tapestry of fantastical tales and Joan would dazzle with her range of music choices. ‘I heard this joke today’ Joan would begin…and funny she could be.
Life was to enjoy, absurd moments with all the rest. Yesterdays mattered. Today’s a drag.
A better tomorrow. Get it while you can. “I love you guys”.
Preceded in death by her parents, nephew, Nick and niece, Addison. Joan is survived by her companion Dewain, her three brothers: Michael, Patrick, and Danny, and four sisters: Ann, Kathleen, Mary, and Peggy. Aunt Joanie—She did it her way.
Nieces and nephews were her delight: Daniel, Leah, Moira, Thomas, Paul, Joe, Jack, David, Keikilani, Kanilehua, Anthony, Anna, Stephen (Biff), Sarah, Cecilia, Allison. …along with seven great nieces and nephews and still counting. Joan had great love for all her family, never forgetting family spouses, significant others, and cherished friends, especially: Mark, Val, Mary, Renee, Burke, Peter, Jackie, Theresa, Jerry, Annette; and her muse too: Greg Allman.
…and Diablo and Lily never left her side. Joan revered her uncle Mike, his wisdom and guidance over the years never forgotten. Ar dheas De go raibh a anam.
