Joan’s Obituary Joan Marie (Badger) Lewis of Ionia, MI passed away February 21,2019. She was born December 21,1936 in Battle Creek, MI to Emma Laurene Badger. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School.

A lifelong love story began when Joan married Otto Martean Lewis on September 24, 1956. After the newlyweds spent the first couple years of marriage living on or near army bases in Missouri and South Carolina they settled in Ionia, which was about half way between their hometowns of Lakeview and Battle Creek. They were blessed with five children: Vicky (John) Wagner of Saranac, Donald (Lorie) Lewis of Ionia, Gary (Cindy) Lewis of Ionia, Richard Lewis, and Julie (Steve) Camp of Lakeview.

She had 15 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Joan also leaves behind a sister, two brothers, many nephews, and nieces. Joan worked for Chrysler at their trim plant in Lyons, MI for 12 years, until the shop closed.

After that she attended classes at Montcalm Community College. Her hobbies included: Gardening, bowling, biking, and reading. She especially treasured time with family.

Joan was always very proud of her Irish heritage, and her favorite Irish Blessing was: “May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face.

May the rains fall soft upon your fields. And, until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of HIS hand”. Author Unknown.

Joan loved life, laughing and she brought happiness to everyone she met. May her legacy of joy live on in all who knew her. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Otto, her youngest son, Richard, and her mother.

Funeral Services will be held at Shiloh Community Church on Monday, February 25th at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Shane Prewitt officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service (1-3PM). Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Great Lakes Hospice or Shiloh Community Church.
