Obituary of Joan Stanko Joan Elaine Stanko, age 85, of Shorewood, and formerly of Oak Lawn, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 23, 2018 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born February 19, 1933 in Oak Park, she was the daughter of Paul and Mae (Suchan) Stich. She married Walter John Stanko on February 2, 1963, and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage.

For 33 years, Joan and her husband, Walter, operated Reliant Lift Truck, where Joan served as accountant and office manager. Joan was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing homemade meals for her family. She also loved to garden.

Joan is survived by her husband, Walter J. Stanko of Shorewood; four children, Brian (Julie) Stanko of St. Charles, Wayne (Nancy) Stanko of Colorado, Cynthia (Paul) Stanko-Hendrickson of Minooka, and Kathleen Stanko of Shorewood; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Pusateri) Barta, Rachel (Pusateri) Hammerstein, Justin Stanko, Brandon Stanko, Jordan Stanko, Kelly Stanko and Kerry Stanko; four great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Gavin Barta and Hunter and Willow Hammerstein. Joan is also survived by a sister, Sandra (the late Walter) Mystek. Joan is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Paul.

Visitation for Joan Elaine Stanko will be held from Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds. , Joliet, IL. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., with Pastor Kevin Comfort officiating.

As it was Joan’s request, cremation rites will be accorded following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Judson Church, 2800 Black Rd, Joliet, IL 60435 or Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 would be appreciated.
