OBITUARY JoAnn Brown Hargrove January 19, 1932 – November 26, 2018 Charlotte – Mrs. JoAnn Brown Hargrove, 86, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018. She was born in Augusta, Georgia on January 19, 1932, the daughter of Gaston Dalton Brown and Evelyn Brown. JoAnn Hargrove was a loving and committed wife of 49 years, a devoted Mother and Grandmother, and a successful businesswoman.

In her marriage to Richard Hargrove, the young couple moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and eventually settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, which they made their home. JoAnn was full of southern grace, friendly to everyone she met, and always made everyone feel comfortable and welcome in her home. She and her husband were members of First United Methodist Church.

The mother of four children, JoAnn did not enter the workforce until later in life, but she quickly found success in the retail industry, buying and curating beautiful styles of apparel and shoes. She was successful as the owner of Ellison Shoe Stores, which had multiple locations in Charlotte. Always driven and determined to make things work, she continued to operate her businesses while living in San Francisco, California, for sixteen years.

She always lived a life where family was the most important thing. Her grandchildren affectionately named her “Granky”, a tradition that was lovingly adopted by the great-grandchildren. Her unconditional love, determination and support was a comfort and inspiration to all.

JoAnn is survived by her beloved children: Richard Scott Hargrove, Jr. and wife Cathy Young, granddaughter, Christina Cahill (her children: Kelsey Hargrove and Gracie Cahill) and granddaughter, Karen Hargrove, all of Charlotte; son, Bruce Hargrove of Charlotte, and his grandson, Andrew Hargrove of Wilmington, NC; Sharon Ann Boyd and husband Keith Boyd, granddaughter, Leslie Donathan and husband Adam Donathan and their children: Coleman Donathan and Reece Donathan, all of Wilmington, grandson, Brian Boyd of Wilmington, grandson, Kenny Boyd and his children: Konnor Boyd and Kayla Boyd, all of Wilmington, granddaughter, Jennifer Boyd and her son, Kaden Boyd of Wilmington; daughter, Patricia “Lynn” Farizell and husband John Farizell, granddaughter, Ashley Sealock and husband Scott Sealock and their children: Jackson Sealock and Avery Sealock, all of Clayton, California, grandson, Jared Farizell and wife Kristen and their son, Gaston Farizell, all of Clayton, California, and grandson, John Farizell and wife Nicole and their children: Estella Farizell and Vincent Farizell, all of San Diego, California. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 in the chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
