Obituary for Joanna Walker (Hodges) Wilson – Funeral Services for Joanna (Hodges) Walker, age 93, of Wilson, are scheduled for 10 A.M. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Rev. Jason Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Simon Cemetery in Simon, OK.

Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson. Joanna was born on September 23, 1925 in Simon, Oklahoma to the late Mr. Henry Owen Hodges and Gladys Gertrude (McGonagil) Hodges. She departed this life on January 7, 2019 at the Wilson Nursing Center in Wilson, OK.

Joanna married the love of her life Virgele A. (Buzz) Walker in December of 1945, when she was 20 years old. They made their home in Wilson and started their family here. Mrs. Walker was a loving mother and grandmother.

She always enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress and made most the clothes her children wore when they were small and even made some clothes out of flour sacks. She was also known for her good cooking and especially her yeast rolls.

Joanna worked at the Wilson Nursing Center for over 19 years as a CNA. Joanna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgele (Buzz) Walker; infant daughter, Anna Maria; 2 sons, Thomas Eugene Walker (Nov 2016) and George Augustus Walker (Jan 2002); sons in law, Billy Bates Sr. (March 2006) and Michael Miller (Feb 2016); granddaughter, AnnaLee Flynn; (April 2017); brothers, Bob, Bill, Jack, D.C., and Joel Hodges; and a sister, Gladys Tucker. She leaves to cherish her memory; daughters, Floy Bates of Wilson, Jo Ann Miller of Wilson, and Mary “Janie” Peal and husband Ricky of Fox; one brother, Pete Hodges of Simon; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren.

Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Billy Bates Jr., Ricky Peal Jr., Russell Walker, Dayle Ann McDougall, Joanna Cormany, Justin Baker, Jeren Baker, and Jacob Parker. Honorary Casket bearers will be Pete Hodges, Gene Walker, Shelley Parker, Tina Gaston, Donna Robbins, Katie Walker, Holly Walker, Tammy Harris and LeAnna Nelson.
