A kind and generous man, Joe was born August 8th, 1939 in Manhattan, Kansas. He married his friend and the love of his life, Kinue Hostetter on September 21, 1973.

Joe graduated from Kansas State before Serving in the United States Navy for 6 years, joining the Navy Jazz band. Joe’s passion for music led him to a career as a professional musician. As a Recording Engineer, in 1972 Joe taught the first ever Audio Recording Class at Berklee University of Music, and was an original member of their Inaugural Department of Audio Recording.

Joe served as the Chair of Recording until his retirement in 1997. Joe also played trumpet for the Ted Herbert Big Band, and his passion for transcribing music from the Big Band era continued up until his passing. Joe loved to garden, play music, and improve the house he purchased in 1976.

His qualities will be remembered and, although it may be impossible to emulate Joe’s amazing life and ethos, we can try every day to be as loving as he was. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00pm in The DeVito Funeral Home 1145 Mass Avenue Arlington.
