Obituary for Mr. Joe Lloyd Davis Jr. Joe Lloyd Davis, Jr., passed away at the age of 84 on Friday, July 13, 2018, at home. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, Hartsville, SC with the Rev. Dr. Dan Sansbury officiating assisted by Mr. Matt Zold.

Visitation will be in the Narthex of the church following the service. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 213 W. Home Ave. , Hartsville, SC; Thornwell Children’s Home, 302 S. Broad St., Clinton, SC 29325; or Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, 810 Maxwell Ave.

, Greenwood, SC 29646. Born on September 23, 1933, in Ruby, SC, he was the son of the late Madge Thurman and Joseph Lloyd Davis, Sr He married Hartsville native, Paula Williams, on December 30th, 1960.

Joe attended Hartsville City Schools and graduated from Appalachian State University. While attending Appalachian, Joe lettered in tennis and also played all four years in the ASU marching and concert bands. After graduation, he taught math at East Mecklenburg High School, in Charlotte, NC.

Joe was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he served as a guard for the United Nations Inspection Team. Near the end of his deployment, he auditioned and was accepted into the Army Band stationed in Japan. In 1960, Joe was employed by Sonoco Products Company where he stayed until retirement.

Joe loved Hartsville. He attended church, enjoyed the lakes, played tennis and golf. He enjoyed his family, his cats, and dog, Halle.

Recently, he commented that he had lived through the best of times. In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his daughter, Leigh Davis (Ross) Hyett; grandchildren, Davis Clare Hyett and Evan Ross Hyett; great-grandchild, Eloise Clare Allender, all of Brevard, NC; sister, Sybil Davis (Tommy ) Griggs, Virginia Beach, VA; and his dog, Halle. The family of Joe Davis wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Jimmy Bell, Dr. Greg Connor, Dr. Orville Dyce, Hospice of South Carolina and the members of First Presbyterian Church.
