John (Jack) C. Bender died peacefully at Bickford of Scioto on December 28, 2018. He was 89 years old. A lifelong resident of Columbus.

Jack was a graduate of St Thomas Aquinas High School in 1947. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an accomplished electrician who served the local I.B.E.W #683 for over 50 years.

He was a founding member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in 1955, where he remained an active member and usher for over 40 years. He was elected secretary of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, Diocese of Columbus. He was an inventor & entrepreneur with many accomplishments; including land developer of Arlington Heights.

In retirement Jack designed and built the Bend-era; a forward-thinking car that was featured in Car and Driver magazine. He is survived by Marilyn Bender and children John (Laura) Bender of Litchfield IL, Thomas, Joseph and Jayne Bender of Columbus, Patricia Ann (Paul) Morrill of Vincentown NJ, and Barbara (Edward) Keesler of Hillsborough NJ. Grandchildren, Colleen Doyle, Andrew Morrill, Dylan Brown, Emily Ferguson, Renee Bender and EJ Keesler.

Great grandchildren Fiona& Liam Doyle. Siblings: twin James Bender of Westerville, Joan Slagle and Gerald Bender of Canal Winchester. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Caroline and his son Charles Bender.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 2nd from 4- 7 pm at Egan Ryan Funeral Home 4661 Kenny Road, Columbus Ohio.
