Obituary for Marjorie Dolan Parsons Marjorie Dolan Parsons died on Wednesday, December 19 in Columbus, Ohio at the age of eighty-six. Marge was born in Ashtabula County, Ohio and grew up on a dairy farm. At the age of 18, and amid some skepticism from her family who believed that the only “honest professions” were farming, teaching, and coaching, Marge married a Methodist minister, George Parsons.

Together they served congregations in Toronto, Ohio, and Doylestown, Ohio before moving to the Cleveland suburb of Pepper Pike where they were community leaders for thirty years. Upon retirement they moved to Columbus where Marge lived until her death. During those years, Marge helped raise her beloved granddaughter Arielle.

She was a nanny for many families in the area, giving loving care to all children as if they were her own and in true “Marge fashion” imparted words of wisdom to their parents if, and when she saw fit. Known for her fierce independence, unwavering open mindedness, and extreme kindness, Marge loved hard work, babies, children, lively and intense conversation, antiques, fabrics, art, music and especially reading. Marge is preceded in death by her son Alec, husband George, parents Mildred and James, siblings Nona, Ruth, Theron, Dick, Ronnie, David, and is survived by her brother Jimmy; daughter Heather; and granddaughter Arielle.

A celebration of Marge’s life will be held on January 12 at 12:00pm at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 444 E. Broad Street, Columbus Ohio 43215 (www. first-church.org). A reception will follow.

Marge had a deep love for the stunning beauty of this building, was passionate about their mission of social justice, and held a deep level of respect for and friendship with the Reverend Timothy Ahrens who along with his wife Susan remained with Marge and her family as she took her last breath. In honor of Marge’s deep seeded belief and life-long practice of holistic mind-body health as well as her love of care-giving and compassion to and for those from all walks of life, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Yoga on High foundation www. yogaonhighfoundation.org, 1020 Dennison Ave Ste 202, Columbus Ohio 43201.
