Obituary for James “Jimmy” Dillion Cooper James Dillon Cooper, age 60, of Buckeye Lake passed away December 23, 2018 after a courageous battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, August 9, 1958 to his parents, Johnnie & Ruby Thompson Cooper. Graduated from Watkins Memorial High School in 1976 and attended Columbus Business University.

Jimmie started farming his Dad’s farm at the age of 14; started his own family farm in 1982 and worked for Stedman Flooring Company from 1979 until 1993 when he began farming fulltime. Jimmie was known for his dedication and extremely hard work ethic. He was a very reful person—hauling rocks, dirt and firewood from his land and he did as much of his own equipment repair and rebuilding as he possibly could.

He restored his barns and rebuilt their house from the ground up. He dug graves for both Silent Home Cemetery and Kirkersville Cemetery for many years and was pretty much available at the drop of a hat in all kinds of weather. There are few that could match his pace, and goals, while always making sure every job was done right.

Jim had a love for his land and for life. He had an ornery side and his teasing was a sign of affection. If he wasn’t farming you could find him fishing, hunting or driving his dogs BooBoo and Pepper around the farm on the 4-wheeler or to McDonalds .

He was an avid NASCAR, Ohio State Buckeye’s and Cleveland Cavalier’s fan. Jimmie had a gift for finding arrowheads and artifacts while walking the fields with his daughters. He liked restoring furniture and woodworking projects.

In the last few years Jimmie became interested in the genealogy of his family; particularly, the Thompson side of the family because of the many interesting facts about his grandfather and all the descendants. Over the years, he has remained close to the family in Elkins, West Virginia. Jim was an avid story teller whether the story was about his childhood adventures, carpet laying days, farming, hunting, fishing and his family.

Jim is survived by his childhood friend and loving wife of 38 years Christy, daughters Karen Cooper, Valerie (Dustin) Tincher, grandson Brady James, and mother, Ruby Cooper. Sisters, Carol (Dean) Glaub, Deborah (Mike) Poff and brother, Gary (Julie) Cooper. Nieces and nephews Jason (Kim) Cooper, Carrie (Bob) Strong, Marcie Cooper, Jacob Harper, Jonathon Glaub, Jenny Lynn (Lee) Kluttz, Laura (Hodge) Hager, Katie Pryor, Dillon Pryor and Gary Cooper, II (a/k/a, Little Gary).

Sister-in-laws Carrie Cooper, Cathy (Phillip) Kauffeld, Claire Brotherton, Cindy (Joe) Baughman and nieces Amy (Josh) Krum and Maggie Baughman, and nephew Zach(Amanda)Kauffeld. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie H. Cooper and his older brother Johnnie, Jr. The family is planning a celebration of life Saturday, May 18, 2019. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers , including Dr. Shakir Sawar and Hospice of Central Ohio.
