Obituary for John Cain Jr. John Cain Jr. age 82, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Accura Health Care in Milford, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Concelebrants Father Siby Punnoose, Msgr.

Kenneth Siefred, and Father Tim Johnson officiating. Burial to follow at St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Friday, October 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. with Scriptural Wake Service at 5:00 P.M. and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5:30 P.M. all at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sheldon.

John Clement Cain Jr. was born on September 5, 1936 near Orilla, Iowa. He was the son of John Sr. and Caroline (Kelly) Cain. He lived his youth on a farm in Cumming, Iowa and attended a one room school house near the farm.

John graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1955. He enjoyed baseball and after high school started a semi-pro league around Des Moines. He attended Loras College and Drake University, graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Kinsella of Des Moines on June 15, 1957 at St. John Basilica in Des Moines. John was employed by an accounting firm in Des Moines and later became a partner. He passed his C.P.A. exam in 1965.

On July 1, 1968, John opened his own C.P.A. practice in Sheldon, Iowa. The firm recently celebrated 50 years of business. His son, Kevin Cain is now the managing partner.

While John was active in his accounting business, he was elected president of the Iowa Society of Public Accountants and was appointed by former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad to the Iowa Board of Accountants, from 1989 to 1996. He retired in 1998 and John and Patricia made their home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. John enjoyed golfing and is credited with 4 holes-in-one, a double eagle and shooting his age at 71.

He passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Accura Health Care in Milford, Iowa. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 61 years, Patricia Cain of Spirit Lake, IA; six children, Ann (Jeffrey) Berens, John III (Valarie) Cain, Kevin (Jane) Cain, Mary (Daniel) Urbanski, Jerome (Judy) Cain, Eugene (Guadalupe) Cain; 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mary Cain. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Cain.
