John D. Adams, Sr., 85, of Uncasville, CT, beloved husband of Joan H. (Mack) Adams. The couple passed away together as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on January 12, 2019. John was born in Lebanon on June 21, 1933.
He was the son of the late Percy and Helen (Brown) Adams. He graduated from Lyman High School and went on to College at Bryant University. John was a proud veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He loved horses and raised his own family in Killingworth, CT. John retired several years ago after a lifelong career working as a salesman for Proctor & Gamble. He married his beloved wife, Joan Mack on July 20, 1985.
The couple resided in Ledyard, Lebanon and most recently, retired to the Uncasville section of Montville. John was a former member of the Elks in Westbrook. He acquired a variety of skills throughout his lifetime that allowed him the ability to tackle any repair or home improvement project that came up.
He was a true craftsman, working with wood. Over his lifetime he built a variety of things, from buildings, structures, cabinets, furniture and many other beautiful heirloom pieces for family and friends. John was very proud of his family.
He found many hours of enjoyment supporting his grandchildren while attending their various academic and sporting events. He will be sadly missed, but always remembered with love by his children, Bruce and wife Kirsten Adams of East Hampton, Bethany and husband Eric Fortier of Glastonbury, step children, Janet Mahlke of Deatsville, AL, Thomas Carr of Killingworth; grandchildren, Ryan and wife Elizabeth Adams, Kyle Adams and fiancé Bekah Bouchard, Grace Adams, Raymond Stebbins, Tyler Stebbins and fiancé Alex Maciolek; five step grandchildren, Christopher, Brian and Justin Carr, Jonathon and Alex Mahlke; two step great grandchildren, Alesana and Scarlett Mahlke and numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his son, John D. Adams, Jr. “There are special people in our lives who never leave us….
Even after they are gone” Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18th at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd. , Colchester, beginning with calling hours from 10 – 11 am, followed by a funeral home chapel service at 11 am. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery, with full military honors.
