Obituary for John Douglas Pierson Sr. Print John Douglas Pierson, Sr., 73, husband of Dawn Nesbitt Pierson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Prisma Health Tuomey. Born July 25, 1945, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Archie China Pierson, Sr. and the late Louise Marshall Pierson. He was a member of Sumter First Church of God.

He served in the National Guard for 11 years and retired from Sifco Mechanical. Survivors include his wife of 53 years; his daughters, Maria L. Green (Richard) and Vickie L. Robinson (Mickey) both of Sumter; a son, John “Johnny” Douglas Pierson, Jr. of Sumter; his sisters, Cecil Evans of Lynchburg, Patricia Martin (Bobby), and Ruth Ann Pierson both of Sumter, and Beth Pierson of Myrtle Beach; six grandchildren, Nicole Henderson (Brent), Amanda Green, Blake Robinson (Erin), Brittany Robinson, Taylor D. Robinson, and Kendall Pierson; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell Henderson and Addelynn Henderson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Archie China Pierson, Jr.; and a sister, Sudie Jeanette Nichols.

A memorial service will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Sumter First Church of God with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday at Sumter First Church of God and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Youth and Children’s Building Fund of Sumter First Church of God, 1835 Camden, Hwy. , Sumter, SC 29153. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
