John F M Evoy, June 01, 1929 — June 24, 2018

Obituary for John F. McEvoy Mr. John F. McEvoy passed away quietly Sunday afternoon, June 24th, 2018 at the Bee Hive Homes. John was born Saturday, June 1, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska to Andrew John and Amber (Penhale) McEvoy. The family moved to Butte when John was an infant and he attended schools in McQueen as well as Butte High School.

Always a hard worker, John worked as a pin setter at a local bowling alley while in high school and set the clock daily at the railroad station on Montana Street (now KXLF TV). He also worked as a taxi cab driver and in the Butte mines including the Leonard and the Lexington. He served his country in the United States Army and following his honorable discharge returned to Butte where he married Theo Ann Babcock on July 25, 1950.

He started driving for Consolidated Freight in Butte and was soon transferred to Billings and later California. He later drove a car hauler in California for several years . They returned to Butte in 1990 and were active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

John was also active in their prison ministry at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge. Besides his wife, John is preceded in death by a son, Clarence A. McEvoy and two sisters. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Karen McEvoy of Alpine, UT, John McEvoy of Auburn, CA, Michael and Emily McEvoy of Chico, CA, daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Dennis Jennison of Butte, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, his sister, Mary Marcille Gulick of Anderson, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
