John Franklin Phillips, Jr. September 21, 1945 – January 21, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Funeral services for John Franklin Phillips, Jr., 73, of Huntington will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Reverend Coy Roach and Reverend Steve Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery. Friends and loved ones may bring food to Zavalla City Hall for after the service.

John was born September 21, 1945 in Houston, Texas to the late Lucille (Hensley) and John Phillips, Sr He went home to his Heavenly reward Monday, January 21, 2019 in Huntington. A former longtime resident of Zavalla, John had resided in Huntington for six years.

He retired from Lufkin Industries and was lay pastor for Huntington Healthcare where he held Bible studies with the residents. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and loved spending time with his family, especially at barbeques. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Astros, and football.

He delighted in laughing and in making people laugh. John was always there for his family and friends. He was especially happy to share his birthday with his great-grandson, Tyler Harris.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce (Weeks) Phillips of Huntington; daughter, Sandra (Phillips) Eastman and husband Aaron of Conroe; son, Wendel Phillips and wife Lacey of Coldspring; grandchildren, Kristopher Russell, Angel Russell, Randal Phillips, Delila Gray, and BreAnna Phillips-Harris; great-grandsons, Tyler Harris and Axl Russell; sister, Edna Phillips of Romayor; brother, Michael Phillips of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jesse, Buddy and Randy Phillips; sisters, Sudie Irene Hock, Mary Martinez, and Virginia “Sissy” Wallace; niece, Wanda Vaco; and nephew, Larry Michael Uvalle. Pallbearers will be Randal Phillips, Aaron Eastman, Kristopher Russell, Terry Mamerow, Reese Vaco, and Dewayne Wright.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Harris and Axl Russell. The family would like to send out their appreciation to Huntington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care they provided for John, aka Pappy. Thank everyone so much for taking care of him.
