James “Speedy” Marze March 11, 1942 – January 09, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Funeral services for James “Speedy” Marze, 76, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Cindy Doran officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery. Mr. Marze was born March 11, 1942 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Jessie Lavelle (Windsor) and Moody Marze, and died Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in a local hospital.

Mr. Marze was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He was a standout baseball player at Hudson, and got his nickname “Speedy” for being the fastest roller skater both forward and backward. Mr. Marze served in the U.S. Army and retired as a foreman from Texas Foundry following 36 years of employment.

He then worked another 18 years for CHI St. Luke’s Valet Parking. Mr. Marze was a member of Keltys United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Golda (Coleman) Marze of Lufkin; daughter, Charlene Marze Buck and husband Michael; stepsons, Juan Garner and wife Sharon of Houston, and Jermaine Garner and wife Andrea of Lufkin; grandchildren, Jerrod Holcombe, Sean Vasquez, Christian Garner, Jaylon Garner, Aubrey Garner, Adin Garner, Joshua Garner, and Jaden Garner; five great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Zapata and husband Pete of Lufkin; lifelong friend, Don Hickman of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Darlene Marze; and twin brother and sister, Donald Marze and Wanda Culbertson. Pallbearers will be Dan Schellhase, Garry Gallagher, Zach Gallagher, Cameron Piske, Spencer English, and Jason Culbertson. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Hickman, Tommy Wells, Ed Mount, Glennis Price, Hershel Shoemaker, Wayne Dickerson, Reagan Kelsey, and Oren Schmidt.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Keltys United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 3354, Lufkin, Texas 75903. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
