Mrs. Craig was born October 10, 1934, and passed away January 5, 2019, in a local hospital. The fourth of eight children born to James Dickson and Charlcie Emma (Haley) Albritton, Betty grew up in the Moffett community and continued to live there most of her adult life.
As a lover of the outdoors, Betty excelled at bass fishing and gardening. She also was an expert fire builder and enjoyed putting a match to any brush pile that needed burning, rain or shine. Always among the first to lend a hand when manual labor was called for, Betty contributed her strength and energy to numerous neighbors, family members, and friends.
Good coffee and made-from-scratch chocolate cake were the only payments she would ever accept. Until her health began to fail, she regularly attended the Lufkin East Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, supporting all its activities. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by former husbands, Charles Wayne Ward and Donald Carl Craig; sisters, Evelyn Free, Charlene Sharp, and Patricia Williams; brother, Jerry Albritton; brothers-in-law, Elmo Hearne, Jack Sharp, Elton Williams, and James Robert Crain; and nephews, Billy Jack Crain, Jimmy Lee Crain, and Greg Albritton.
Survivors include her sons, Mark Steven Ward and wife Lisa and Randall Scott Ward, all of Lufkin; grandson, Daniel Steven Ward of Lufkin; granddaughter, Tiffany Rivers and husband Chris of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Hadyn Rivers and Cade Rivers of Nacogdoches; sisters, Dorothy Hearne of Corrigan and Joyce Crain of Lufkin; brother, Gene Albritton and wife Mary Ann of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Rayburn J. Free of Houston; nieces, Dedra Heaton, Anna Blocker, Lawana Gernant, Jessica Albritton, and Christina Albritton; nephews, Mike Free, Donald Heaton, Tracy Williams, Robert Hearne, Jerry Crain, and John Crain; her special life-long best friend, Rose Corder Love and husband Don of Henderson; as well as many other relatives and friends. The family would also like to acknowledge neighbors Jeff and Marianne Blackwood, Gayland and Elaine Wallace, and Merlene Roach for all their kindness and support before and during Betty’s illness.
