OBITUARY Mary Mozelle Doss May 31, 1927 – January 15, 2019 Play Tribute Movie Services for Mozelle Goodwin Doss, 91, of Wells, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Clayton McClendon, Brother Jim Maddox, and Brother Doug Durham officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.
Mrs. Doss was born May 31, 1927 in Wells, Texas to the late Ottie (Vinson) and Raymond Goodwin. She passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2019 in a local hospital. Mrs. Doss was a lifetime resident of Wells and was retired from Lufkin State Supported Living Center, following 20 years of employment.
She was also a Certified Medication Aide at the Wells LTC nursing home for many years. As a young girl, she worked in a café owned by Lula Oldham. She married Tommie Alvin Doss on January 4, 1947 and lived together until his death on October 4, 1973.
She was a former member of the Church by Christ Jesus pastored by Brother Clayton McClendon and later in life was a member of Living Water Church pastored by Brother Jim Maddox. She loved going to church and gospel songs. She had been living at Wells LTC for several years, where she loved all her caretakers and we know she was loved by all of them.
We appreciate your care and attention you all gave her. Survivors include her daughter, Janie Durham and husband William of Wells; grandchildren, Amy Durham Pruitt and husband Matthew of Longview, Tommy Durham and fiancée Madison Wardlaw of Porter, and Doug Durham and wife Mango of Marshall; great-grandchildren, Daelon, Piper and Paisley Pruitt of Longview, Lily Durham of Perry, Florida, and Beau and Bailey Durham of Nacogdoches; nieces, Rebecca Mooney, Glenda Cole and Jill Grubbs Smith; nephews, Michael Goodwin, Roy Mack Goodwin, James Lee Goodwin, and Joe Doss; and a number of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Doss was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Doss; parents, Raymond and Ottie Goodwin; and brothers, John, Young and Louis Goodwin.
Pallbearers will be Roy Mack Goodwin, James Lee Goodwin, Justin Dixon, Matthew Pruitt, Tommy Durham and Doug Durham. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Doss, Michael Goodwin and Corbitt Doss. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Doss’ memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904; or Wells LTC Activity Fund, P. O. Box 359, Wells, TX 75976.
