John J. Strach, Sr., age 94, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 27, 2019, in Muskegon. He was born November 19, 1924 to Ignatius and Agnes (Jarasz) Strach in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from St. Joseph High School, then enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served in the European Theater during WWII.

John worked as a salesman/truck driver at Peter Eckrich and Sons for 42 years before retiring. He had a lifelong passion for sports and competed in fastpitch softball for the Polish Falcons and Lappo Lumber. He enjoyed watching the Tigers, Lions, MSU, U of M, ND and Catholic Central.

John was a founding and active member of the St. Michael’s Athletic Club. On November 13, 1947 John married Irene Tutak, and she preceded him in death in 1999. John and Irene raised 5 sons.

He is survived by 4 of his sons: John Jr. (Kathy Oliver) Strach, James Strach, David (Joyce) Strach, Robert (Jenifer) Strach; grandchildren: Kristopher (Jen), Mike, Anna, Nickolas, Noah and Nathen Strach, Sarah (Ryan) Keyes, Liz (Matt) Stolz,Ian Rose; and great-grandson Holden; sister-in-law, Dorothy Strach; brother-in-law, Mel Arnson; daughter-in-law, Lauren (Michel) Rose. In addition to his wife Irene, John was also preceded in death by his son, Dr. Edward Strach; his parents; and brothers Stanley, Edward, Walter, Joseph, Michael and Frank Strach. Cremation has taken place.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 6, at 11:00 AM at The Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Charles D. Hall presiding.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, April 5, from 6-8 PM, at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. , (231) 759-8565, and one hour prior to the mass on Saturday. A private burial will take place at St. Marys Cemetery.
