John M. Northenscold Sr., age 81, of Maple Lake, died of glioblastoma on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2018 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. Matthew Northenscold and Fr.

John Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery near Maple Lake. Visitation will be held 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, both at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake.

The Knights of Columbus will lead the Rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral chapel. John Maynard Northenscold Sr. was born November 7, 1936 in Minneapolis to Herbert M. and Alice (Gardner) Northenscold. He graduated from DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis with the class of 1955 and continued his education at the University of Minnesota.

John married Carol Ann Lundby on September 7, 1957 at Ascension Catholic Church in Minneapolis. He was a computer programmer and systems analyst with Scientific Computers Inc. for 10 years before starting a real estate career spanning 40 years. He worked for Century 21, Realty World – Vergin and IBR.

John was an active member of St. Timothy Catholic Church where he sang in the choir, served as an usher and taught CCD. He was a member of Father O’Brien’s Council Knights of Columbus #3613, past president of the Blaine Jaycees, 1969 Minnesota Jaycee Human Rights State Chairman, served 32 years on the Maple Lake City Council and was a founding member of the Mighty Nimrods Sportsman’s Club. John loved his family, hunting, fishing, sports, casino trips, train rides, online auctions, politics and Maple Lake government.

He loved to play the washboard and sing at family gatherings. John was a Minnesota Jaycee Ten Outstanding Young Men recipient in 1972, selected by the Maple Lake Chamber of Commerce for the 2017 Minneapolis Aquatennial Commodore’s Award and was the Grand Marshal for the Maple Lake St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2018. He is survived by his wife Carol of Maple Lake; children John Jr. (Linda) of Maple Lake, Bradley (Cindy) of Waite Park, Steven (Kim) of Maple Lake, Kenneth (Kim) of Nisswa, Paul and fiancé Andrea Dilworth of Buffalo and Kathryn (Patrick) Serrano of Maple Lake; brother Joseph (Sue) of Brooklyn Center; 20 grandchildren Sarah, Fr.

Matthew, Sr. Mary Pieta (Lisa), Mary, Alicia, Derek, Adam, Daniel, David, Christopher, Erin, Heather, Amber, Jeremy, Zach, Dustin, Lindsi, Katie, Emily and Jeffrey; 18 great grandchildren; cousins; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Stanley, Martin and Peter; sister Delores Kulseth. Music for the service provided by the Joyful Noise Choir.

Urn bearers will be John’s six children. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
