Obituary for John Michael “Jack” Flaherty John Michael “Jack” Flaherty, 72, of Estero, FL, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018. Formerly of Ladd, IL, he had been an Estero resident for the last eight years. He was born May 21, 1946 in Mendota, IL, the son of James and Margaret (née Taggert) Flaherty.

Mr. Flaherty was passionate about volunteering his time. He worked with organizations such as Star Ability (formerly Foundation for the Developmentally Disabled), Lighthouse for the Blind, and the Lions Club of Bonita. With these organizations John helped plan bowling events, spent time coaching the baseball team, and ran the bingo night at their center.

Additionally, he helped facilitate events like their annual Christmas party, and dinners at the local dinner theater. He worked most recently at Dollar Tree and loved every moment he spent there. Prior to that he worked for Radio Reading service for the Blind at FGCU in Estero, FL.

Jack was a friend of Bill W. Mr. Flaherty is survived by his loving children, Michelle (Corey) Billie of Naples, FL, Kimberly Hager of Ft. Myers, FL and Michael Flaherty of Bloomington, IL; his sister and brother, Carol (Leonard) Sondergroth and Jim (Diane) Flaherty, both of Mendota, IL; and four beloved grandchildren, Marissa, Matthew, Caleb and Joel. Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Lions Club of Bonita Springs, 10346 Pennsylvania Ave.

, Bonita Springs. Light food will be served. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home – Family Owned Since 1978.
