Obituary for John Paul Kinard John Paul Kinard, 79, entered Heavens Gate on Thursday, August 30, 2018. John was a lifelong resident of El Paso, Texas, except for the years he served his country. After serving his country as an Army micro-wave specialist, John was employed by Western Electric Telephone Company, now Lucent Technologies, for 44 years.
He was an outstanding employee; however, his employment never overshadowed his love for his family. John was a committed, loyal, faithful, loving, trustworthy, uncompromising family man. His love and trust in God guided and directed him to be a good husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend.
A close family friend said on his passing, “Heaven is a more beautiful place because of John who has shown us by his life how a Godly man lives his life—delighting in the Lord”. John accepted the Lord in his heart at the age of ten in his father’s church, Manhattan Baptist Church, where at times he played the piano. After his father and mother passed, he became a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he taught the young adults class and served as deacon for over 15 years.
It was at this church that John met Carmen Teran who introduced him to her daughter Josie. Carmen became a second mother to John, who revered her. Johnny, as he was known to close family, married his beloved Josie on June 11, 1977, at First Baptist Church of El Paso on a beautiful sunny, breezy day.
On September 5,1978, John and Josie became the proud parents of a beautiful red haired boy, John Michael Kinard. John and his son were inseparable. He taught his son to love God above all else, respect women, love family, and pursue his dreams, but always remembering, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths”.
John’s favorite hobby was restoring his 1967 Charger and his first new car, a 1962 Corvair. After restoring these two cars and entering them in several Mopar car shows and winning several trophies, John and his son were planning on restoring a 1966 Corvair he bought for John Michael. His garage was his second castle where he liked to work on his cars, do carpentry work, fix any type of equipment, and totally enjoy his peace and quiet.
John was preceded in death by his father Luther Heywood Kinard, his mother Emmalyn Beatrice Kinard, brothers Luther Haywood Jr. and Fred Kinard, nephew Lynn Kinard, and two loving aunts, Anne Mosley and Marjorie LeMin. He is survived by his wife Josie, son John Michael, cousins Buford (Janie) Mosley and Bill (Jerri)Mosley, sister-in-law Bonnie (David) Rosado, brother-in-law Earnest (Nancy) Gutierrez, nieces Vanessa (Mario) Moreno and Dr. Rebecca Rosado (Sean) O’Meara, Natalie (Anthony) Vasquez, and nephew David Victor Rosado. John is also survived by his two childhood friends, John and Jerry Bright.
A very special thank you to John’s loving and caring nurses, Nel Randa and Claudia Sanchez, Providence Memorial, and Doctors Vinay Patel and Kumunda Pradham. Also, much appreciated are the prayers, love, care, cards and visits from First Baptist Church members, Senior Pastor, Dr. Mark Rotramel and Executive Pastor, Dr. Robert A. Nickell.
