John’s Obituary John James Powers, 69, of Martin passed away 4:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2019, at West Tennessee Healthcare Volunteer Hospital in Martin. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Manna Ministries near Union City. Ruth Green will officiate.

Burial will follow in Beulah Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Manna Ministries from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday. Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Sammy Morris, Travis Morris, Brad Walker, Zach Cheney, Caleb Cheney and Joe Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be James Cheney, Chris Courtney, Gevin Courtney, Josh Pollock, Steven Pollock and Darrin Dickerson. John was born August 19, 1949, in Jackson, Michigan, son of the late John Stephen and Ellnora Dorothy (Elliott) Powers.

He married Brenda Joy (Turnbow) Powers October 2, 1993. She preceded him in death October 7, 2017. John served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

He retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 30 plus years of service and was a member of Manna Ministries. He is survived by two daughters, Amanda Avent (Nicky) of Martin and Michelle Rice (Derrick) of Blackman Township, Michigan; one son, Andrew Powers of Jackson, Michigan; four stepdaughters, Gina Dickerson (Darrin) of South Fulton, Angie Parish (Larry) and JJ Cheney (David) all of Union City and Stacy Walker (Brad) of Martin; three stepsons, Brian Eaves of Union City, Shane Eaves (Wendy) of Obion and Clarence Nelson III of Jackson, Michigan; three sisters, Cindy Powers and Mary Powers both of Jackson, Michigan and Teresa Powers of Ann Arbor, Michigan; one brother, Joseph Powers (Linda) of Jackson, Michigan; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Arts and Dorothy Newman.
