John Robert Weeks April 24, 1926-January 17, 2019 John Robert Weeks, 92, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Millers Merry Manor in Walkerton, IN. He was born April 24, 1926 in Albion, Indiana, the son of Ernest Weeks and Olga (Black) Weeks. John was a member of the VFW of LaPorte, DAV, and the First United Methodist Church.

He was awarded the Purple Heart from his services in Korea. Through the years, he was involved throughout the community. He coached LaPorte Little L. Baseball for 50 years, was president of the LaPorte YABA Bowling Association for 18 years, taught Sunday school at United Methodist Church for 24 years, and was a member of the Allis Chalmers Management Club.

John retired from Allis Chalmers, as a manufacturing engineer, in 1983 after 27 and half years of service. In 1982–he was inducted to the LaPorte Bowling Association Hall of Fame, and in 1985– he was voted the Indiana State YABA Coach of the Year. In John’s honor, each year in the annual Walt Thode Baseball Tournament, there is a John R. Weeks most valuable player award given.

On November 29, 1952, in Burr Oak, Indiana, he married Carole Jean (Reese) Weeks who preceded in death October 15, 2018. He is survived by his two daughters, Carla Jo (Rob) Kanney of La Porte, IN, Julie K. Sneed of La Porte, IN; Two Sons, Dale S. Weeks of La Porte, IN, Robert D. Weeks of Warsaw, IN; twin brother, William Weeks of Albion, IN; sister, Ruth Conkling of Warsaw, IN,; two brothers, Don Weeks of Indianapolis, IN, Dick Weeks of Wolcott, IA; eleven grandchildren, Jeff (Holly) Casto, Zachary (Erica) Kanney, Kelly Weeks, Maggie (Doug) Fritzen, Louie (Amanda) Weeks, Andrew (Emily) Weeks, Becca Sneed, Brandon Weeks, Nolan (Hannah) Weeks, Samantha Weeks, Edward Weeks; fourteen great-grandchildren, Austin Casto, Abigail Casto, Tommy Peeples, Michael Peeples, John Peeples, Norah Kanney-Richardson, Levi Kanney, Asher Kanney, Beau Kanney, Shon Weeks, Dylan Fritzen, Ellie Smith, Emerick McGinnis, Meadow Weeks. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Emma Jean Kostielny and Mary Leffel, half sister, Dorothy Rickel, and two half brothers, Kenneth Weeks and George Weeks.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave. , La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, January 21, 2019, from 3:00pm till 6:00pm. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home Monday January 21, 2019 at 6:00pm with Danny Evans officiating.
