John Stetson Peckham, 91, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died June 27, 2018 in Gothenburg. He was born July 8, 1926 in Gothenburg, NE, son of Hubert Bryan and Sarah Gladys (Hammond) Peckham. He grew up on the family farm and attended schools at Gothenburg.

He graduated from Platte Valley Academy at Shelton, NE in 1944 and later graduated from Milford Technical School as a welder. John married Dorothy Jean Rine, the mother of – Carolyn, Jacqueline, Marilyn, and Barbara. He then married Donabell Pierson, the mother of – David, Douglas and Deea.

He farmed and ran cattle in the Platte Valley on the land that his grandfather homesteaded in 1879. He had a love for horses, trains, the land and farming in general. He enjoyed tinkering, welding and reading, especially history and spiritual material.

A favorite pastime was to go for drives in the country to see the crops and the lay of the land. He was a member of the Gothenburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include his children, Carolyn Nelson, of Lincoln, Jacque (Tom) Shotkoski, of Lincoln, Marilyn (Don) Hayes of Martell, Barbara (Lennie) Devine of Grand Island, David (Darlene) Peckham of Indianola, Douglas (Teresa) Peckham of Gothenburg, Deea Peckham of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Lind of Gothenburg, Mary Lou Peckham of Ft.

Collins, CO; sister-in-law, Billie Jean Peckham of Fort Worth, TX; newphews Kim (Lori) Peckham of Lincoln and John M. (Paula) Peckham of Burleson, TX. John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dan Peckham, son-in-law Dave Nelson, grandson Bryan Hayes. Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, July 1, 2018, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

with the family present from 1:00 pm. – 3:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10:30 am.

Burial will follow in the Peckham Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Public Library, 1104 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE 69138.
