Obituary for John T. Campbell John T. Campbell, 87, of Methuen, former longtime resident of Somerville, passed away on July 17, 2018 at Lawrence General Hospital surrounded by his devoted family. He was born on August 15, 1930 to the late Azel and Florence (Appleby) Campbell in Fairchance, PA. Raised and educated in Fairchance, John graduated with the Class of 1948.

Shortly after high school, John felt the call of duty and enlisted in the US Navy and served proudly during the Korean War. After his discharge, he married his sweetheart and settled in Somerville, MA where he raised his family. A devout lifelong Catholic, John was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Parish in Somerville and later in life at St. Augustine’s Parish in Lawrence.

He was the patriarch of his large family and he worked at IPI as an ink mixer until his retirement. John was a kind and generous man who loved to fish, always had a harmonica in his pocket, and loved to garden. He was a selfless man whose unwavering love for his wife was shown by the ten years he spent at her bedside before her untimely passing.

John was a man who touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be loved, cherished, and missed by all. John is survived by his ten children; his daughter, Pat Queene and her husband James of Merrimac, MA, his daughter, Carol Pye and her husband Richard of Methuen, his son, John Campbell and his wife Ouida of Greensboro, NC, his son, Dan Campbell and his longtime companion Martha McCarthy of Arlington, his daughter, Dottie Morris and her husband Bill of North Reading, his daughter, Cindy Almas and her husband Mario of Wilmington, his son Jim Campbell and his wife Susan of Somerville, his daughter, Irene Knight and her husband Rich of Alford, ME, his daughter Deb Robinson and her husband Mark of Auburn, NH, and his son, Kevin Campbell and his wife Kristy of Somerville. John was the proud grandfather to his eight grandchildren; Michael, Kim, Richie, Valerie, Keith, Melissa, Emma and Lily.

He was the great-grandfather to six. John is also survived by his sister Dorothy Hughes of Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene (Leonard) Campbell in 1983 and 11 of his siblings.

Visitation for John will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 3 – 7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A funeral service for John will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 9 AM followed by internment at Mt.

Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in John’s memory to the Pine Street Inn, Development Office, 444 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118.
