John Thomas Carnell March 19, 1932 – December 21, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Funeral services for John Thomas Carnell will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 27, 2018 at First Baptist West with Rev. Harold Gaches, Pastor officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. John Thomas Carnell, 86, Lawton passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 in Lawton. John was born March 19, 1932 in Lexington, Tennessee to Isriah Harrison and Sarah Francis (Essary) Carnell.

He married Pauline Parrish on July 31, 1952 in Gobler, Missouri. A few months after marriage, John was drafted into the Army and served for two years in the Korean War. While in the Army he earned the Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Following his service to his country John returned to Gobler, Missouri where he lived and farmed. In 1957 the Carnell family moved to Lawton where John worked for Preston Plumbing and A & B Plumbing before beginning John’s Plumbing. He retired in 2003.

John was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Jefferson Baptist Church, and for the last 20 years a member of First Baptist West where he served as a deacon. He belonged to church choirs, a gospel quartet, and was an excellent soloist. John was a great husband, father, and grandfather and loved his grandsons and his great grandchildren very much.

John is survived by his wife Pauline of the home, daughter Jacqueline K. Herbert and husband Rick W. of Lawton, grandsons, Richard John Herbert and wife Lindsey of Lawton, John Thomas Herbert and wife Jennifer of Choctaw, three great grandchildren, Jadyn Lyn Herbert, Jake Thomas Herbert and Cade Thomas Herbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Tommy Carnell, Andrew Carnell and Bob Carnell, three sisters, Kathleen Alexander, Sally Danels and Pauline Jackson. Memorial contributions may be made to the OU Children’s Hospital, 1200 Children’s Ave.
