John’s Obituary John Verdes Age 87, of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Grandview Hospital. John was born January 6, 1932 in Nyiradony, Hungary to the late Michael & Anna Verdes. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four sisters in Hungary.

John was a 50 year-plus member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. He retired from General Motors in 1996 with 27 years of service. John was also a member of the Hungarian Club of Dayton and the Hungarian Soccer Club of Dayton.

He is survived by his loving wife of the past 55 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Boedeker) Verdes; three sons, Mike (Cathy), John (Shelley) & Steve (Kathy) Verdes; one sister, Mary; six grandchildren, Philip, Lauren, Matthew, Mark, Libby & Joey; and by his special friend and caregiver, Guustie Alvarado. The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday (1/22) at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 East National Rd. , Vandalia.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. John Tonkin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday (1/23) at the church.

Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that contributions be made in memory of John to either St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Autism Society of Dayton.
