John R. “Wiz” Fabian, 86, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Monday May 28, 2018 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH. He was born January 6, 1932 in Mingo Junction, Ohio a son of the late Marion “Mario” and Mary (Liberatore) Fabian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret A. “Marge” (Legros) Fabian.

Wiz graduated from Mingo High School in 1949. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked for 32 years in the United States Post office.

He served as an elected official holding many offices including, Steubenville Township Trustee for 26 years; the Village of Mingo Junction Council for 8 years; and the Mayor of Mingo Junction for 10 years. Wiz was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church; the Mingo Knights of Columbus Council #4361; the Mingo Lions Club; the Mingo American Legion Post #351; the Mingo Shanagu Club; the Jefferson County Board of Health; and an associate member of the Jefferson County Township Association. He was also a former member of the Jefferson County Regional Planning Commission.

Surviving are his three children, John “Scott” (Jennifer Keen) Fabian of Mingo Junction, OH, Johnna (Mark) Tomeucci of Stafford, VA, and Jay (Marie) Fabian of Mingo Junction, OH; two sisters, Maryann Ruckman of Mingo Junction, OH and Cassandra “Sandy” (Robert) Cornelius of Sumter, SC; ten grandchildren, Mark (Rebecca) Tomeucci, Jr., Jonathan Tomeucci, Aaron Michael Fabian and his girlfriend Alicia Ziarko, Jordan Marie Fabian, Emily Tomeucci, Isabella Fabian, Jenna Fabian, Maggie Fabian, Alec Craig and Graci Craig; three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Hailey and Anthony; and one great-grandson on the way, Michael Fabian Smith. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave. , Mingo Junction.

On Friday there will be viewing at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, celebrant.

Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Mingo Junction, with Military Honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Squad. On Thursday there will be a Vigil service at 2 p.m. and Lions Club Service at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed in Wiz’s memory to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 204 St. Clair Ave. , Mingo Junction, OH 43938.
