Obituary of John Stack JOHN OLIVER STACK Age 70, died June 12, 2018, after a brief illness in Hanceville, AL, where he had lived for the past few years. He was born July 17, 1947 in Duagh, County Kerry, Ireland. He moved to Pittsburgh with his parents, the late John and Eileen Stack, in 1948.

He was a longtime resident of Swissvale and a member of St. Anselm Catholic Church. John was employed for 30 years with the Internal Revenue Service in New Jersey and Pittsburgh, which honored him with several national awards. He received his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and earned a master’s degree from Villanova University.

He was very interested in Irish History and Culture. He traveled widely for the IRS and personally. He visited Ireland several times.

John is survived by a brother, Michael Stack (Cecelia); and sisters, Kathleen Meier (Kenneth), Sarah Romito (Dante) and Mary McCormick (Thomas); nine nephews and nieces, and many local and Irish relatives and friends, including Paul Ketchum. Visitation will be at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME, INC. , 7441 Washington St., Swissvale Monday only 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday 9:30 a.m. in Word of God Roman Catholic Church, formerly St. Anselm Church with Burial to follow in Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
