Jorge Angelo Alfaro, age 69 passed away peacefully Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy. The son of Jose Jesus and Irene, he was born October 21, 1949 in Detroit, MI. He attended Eastern Michigan University until he was drafted into the Army.

After marrying Mary Roesner, they moved to California where he began his career in the broadcasting industry.

They returned to the Toledo area to raise their children Anne and Mike while he pursued his career in broadcasting sales. Jorge was a member of the Toledo Ski Club where he met Sandy. They married in 2009.

They traveled extensively. After retirement, they joined the Peace Corps serving in Botswana, Africa for two years. He was talented musically, playing guitar in a Blue Grass band called The Salty Dogs.

He was also an excellent singer winning a karaoke contest on a cruise. His prize was the opportunity to sing with Phil Dirt and the Dozers. He enjoyed singing Mustang Sally with the band 56 Daze at his and his daughter’s weddings.

Jorge was also an outstanding gardener going as far as knowing the genus species name for all the plants. He was also known for his excellent cooking. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Hamilton; children, Anne (Robert) Alfaro-Urfer, Mike (fiancé Loujain Shorbati); granddaughter, Cora Urfer who called him “Poppy”; brothers, John and Joe Alfaro; sister, Emilie Wetherington; the mother of his children, Mary Roesner and numerous extended family.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Armando and his parents. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 4 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Peace Corps at peacecorps.gov/donate/memorial-funds. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sandy’s nephew, Bill Gaw for all his help, support and care he gave to them and Jorge.
