OBITUARY Joseph M. Casparino August 1, 1926 – January 8, 2019 Joseph M. Casparino, 92, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband for 60 years of the late Claire Ann (Scavullo) Casparino, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on August 1, 1926, he was the son of the late Michael and Rose (Faillace) Casparino and had lived in the area all his life. Joe was a proud WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was an Airedale, yellow shirt durny, and was a plank owner of the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. He was a talented architect who worked for several architectural firms, and he was responsible for the design and construction management of a number of facilities in the state, including Bradley Field, the Hartford Civic Center and UConn campus to name a few. Joe was a longtime faithful communicant of St. James Church in Rocky Hill and also belonged to the St. James Men’s Club for years.
Among his many hobbies, he enjoyed playing golf with his cronies and was a regular for many years at Goodwin Park. Joe also enjoyed reading and spending Sundays with his great-granddaughter, Lily. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.
He was affectionately known as “Ravioli Joe” at Steve’s Restaurant in Rocky Hill, where he was a regular on Tuesdays. More than anything, he was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be forever missed by his three devoted children, Joseph J. Casparino and wife Amy, Deb LaFrancis and fiancé Mark Setaro and James R. Casparino and wife Lorraine, all of Rocky Hill; eight adored grandchildren, Ben Casparino, Michele LaFrancis, Anthony LaFrancis, Troy Casparino and Lauren Bacon, Daniel Casparino and wife Sarah, Nicholas Casparino and wife Samantha, Natalie O’Connor and Lorette O’Connor and two cherished great-granddaughters, Lily Casparino and Gianna Casparino. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Casparino; his sister, Theresa Flaherty and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (January 12) at 10 a.m. at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish at St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. , Wethersfield.
