Joe passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, May 2, 2019. He was born on November 18, 1941 in Tarrant County, Texas to his parents, Joseph Lynn Perkins, Sr. and Gladys LaRue Bray Perkins.

He graduated from Marshall High School in 1960. Joe served in the U.S. Navy and enlisted to serve as a soldier in the Vietnam War. After his service in Vietnam, he attended the University of Texas from 1965-1969, for his undergraduate degree.

He furthered his education at Texas Tech School of Law from 1970-1973. Joe practiced law in Denton, Texas as Assistant District Attorney from 1973-1976 and then served in private practice in Marshall until 1988. Joe joined the Texas State Attorney General’s Office from 1988-2005 as a State Attorney enforcing and protecting the children of Texas in countless child support cases until 2005.

In 2005, he became an Associate Judge for the State of Texas and served in that position until his death. Joe met the love of his life, Nina Ferrier and they were married on June 19, 1973. They gave “marriage” it’s definition.

They shared 45 years of true love, honesty and devotion to one another, until Nina’s death in 2018. Joe and Nina have one son, Joseph Alexander (Alex) Perkins, of Pearland, Texas. Alex has always been the love of both of their hearts.

Joe and Nina always told Alex that he was born in their hearts and that’s only one of the many reasons that they loved him so. Joe is preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Joseph Bibb; his wife, Nina; his sister, Linda Irby and step-brother, Bob Bibb. Joe is survived by his son, Alex and his wife, Lesley and two most precious granddaughters, Paisley and Reilly, who will miss their “Pop” very much.

He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Douglas Ferrier and his wife, Marie; his nephew, Thomas Ferrier; his niece, Katie Marie Ferrier Gage and her husband, Bryan; their adorable daughter “Dottie” and numerous other nieces and nephews. Joe would not want his obituary to leave out “The Boys”, as survivors. They have been his faithful canine companions, Beaux and Robbie.

Both friends are rescue dogs. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to Friends of Marshall Animals in support of this Nonprofit Organization to build the first “No Kill” shelter in Marshall, Texas. Donations may be sent, in memory of Joe to Friends of Marshall Animals, P.O.
