Obituary for Joseph Richard O’Bryan Joseph Richard O’Bryan 98, returned to his heavenly father on Saturday October 13, 2018. He saw many things throughout his life. He endured the Great Depression, and served in the First Aircraft Assembly Squadron (P-38s, P-40s & P-51s) in North Africa during World War II.
He graduated from the University of Louisville, and used his business background and trusting personable relationships to excel as a vice president/branch manager at several branches of First National Bank of Louisville. He and his wife Mary Louise enjoyed travel to many parts of the world. He had many good times with friends on the golf course, and especially enjoyed making birdhouses for the grandchildren.
He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. He loved his rose garden and always presented the first rose of the season to his wife. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years Mary Louise, his parents Richard P and Katharine V O’Bryan, step mother Minnie O’Bryan, and sister Lucille Berry.
His legacy remains in his three children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by sons, Charlie (Theresa), John (Robin) and daughter Jody Schaefer (Carl). Grandchildren Shelly, Kristin (RG), Tommy (Kerri), Allison (Jon), Terry (Olivia), John (Emily) and Marie.
Great-grandchildren Salem, Shiloh, Eli, Emma, Bella, and Declan. He demonstrated that faith, family, laughter, loyalty, and hard work made for a joy filled life. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM to on Wednesday October 17 at Ratterman Funeral Home 3711 Lexington Road “In St Matthews”.
His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday October 18 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Road with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff of Parrs/Springhurst Pines for their care and support. Memorial gifts in the form of donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul.
