Joyce A. Merz, 86, of Toledo, OH, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at Sunset House. She was born in Monroe, Michigan, August 8, 1931, to parents Roy R. and Margaret A. (Evans) Stanifer. Joyce graduated from the University of Toledo in 1966.

She taught in the Washington Local School System for many years, primarily 6th grade at Monac Elementary School. Joyce was an accomplished musician both in voice and piano. She is survived by her daughter Diane (Mark) Cooper; son Thomas (Wendy) Coffey; grandchildren Ryan (Fiancé Hannah Winters) Coffey, Ally Coffey, and Sarah (Brad) Poore; great-granddaughter Linnea Poore; and brother Paul E. (Sue) Stanifer.

Joyce was preceded in death by her former spouses, Herbert C. Coffey, Dr. Lloyd F. Sunderman, and Edwin Merz. Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Tuesday May 22nd from 10 a.m. until the funeral ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. Joyce will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park, Lasalle, MI. Those wishing to offer memorials are asked to consider, in lieu of flowers, tributes to Ashanti Hospice at Sunset Communities.
