Obituary for Joyce E. (Swason) Milliken Joyce Elaine Milliken, 89, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully August 31, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit. Born February 27, 1929 in Brandon, South Dakota to John and Clara Swason, the baby of the family, Joyce was predeceased by her 9 siblings… and her daughter Jayne. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from South Dakota State University and her Master’s Degree at Purdue University.

Among the states she called home were South Dakota, Colorado, Texas, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Connecticut. Joyce was an Educator, a news junkie and a proud woodworker; she enjoyed family, friends, jazz, lively discussions and Putnam Camp in the Adirondacks. Gma Joyce leaves behind her precious grandchildren Abby, Erica, Dylan and Alex.

Also loving her are her daughter Julie and Jim Erasmus, her son Jon Milliken, her S-‘n-L Joe Bleicher, her best friend Lou Loomis, and numerous nephews and nieces, their families, her West End friends and her friends at The McAuley. Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in her name may be made to Elizabeth Park Conservancy.
