The Good Lord was gracious and merciful when he took Joyce home May 17, 2018. Joyce was born in Dorcas, Florida to Burton Simon Rogers and Francis Ella McClellan. She grew up in Fort Walton Beach and was a proud Choctawhatchee Indian, Class of 1954.

She was best friends with Jane Taylor, Betty Oglesby, and Jean Brunson in school, friendships which lasted her whole life. Joyce married Patie Morgan Brunson of Niceville and they spent many carefree days on the sugar white beaches of Destin. Despite being poor as church mice, they raised a fine family and live in the matchbox house, as Joyce referred to it, at 497 East Main Street in Niceville.

They built a beautiful home in Choctaw Beach, and in 1965 relocated their family to paradise. That is where Joyce made another lifelong friend in Ginny Smith, whose love and friendship sustained her to the end. The Bible says of a virtuous woman, Proverbs 31:28, “Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her”.

Joyce and Patie have three sons and one daughter, Dewitt (Wanda) Brunson of Bluewater Bay, Richard Brunson of Rocky Bayou, Lisa (Allan) Quigley of Choctaw Beach, and Jason Bully (Shannon) Brunson of Choctaw Beach. They consider their children the richest blessing God has ever bestowed on one man and one woman. Joyce and Patie have a special love for their grandchildren Jeremy Brown, Dora Cawood, Joy Brown, Jenni Brunson, Chris Brunson, Kyle Brunson, Carey Ogburn, Alex Brunson, JoJo Brunson, and Bodhi Brunson.

Their love for their 10 great grandchildren is expressed on the faces of these very special children, Lela, Wyatt, Avery, Blake, Madi, Rhett, Libby, Porter, Kingston, and Molly. Joyce was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters, Gladys Harvell, Louise Brown, Burton Rogers, Casey Rogers, Mabel Harrelson, Essie Marie “Bill” Rogers, Bonnie McKloski, and Ferris Rogers. She is survived by one brother-in-law, Cyle Brunson of Valdosta, Georgia.
