Obituary for Julieta (Julie) Portillo Julieta (Julie) Portillo lived a life that was definitely worth living; she was a warrior, a feminist, fought for her independence until the very end. Being feisty, blunt and irreverent was in her character. Her work ethic was unparalleled and so very proud of her children like no mother could be.
The original working single mother in the 60s, immigrated alone to this country in the 70s and worked 3 jobs to make ends meet always with an overwhelming optimistic attitude. She met the love of her life; Alfonso with whom she lived the best years of her life, it was destiny that they be together, they complemented each other, opened a small business doing what they both loved; selling, buying, making deals and traveling and now they are together again to continue their love story and probably selling rhodocrosite or lapiz to St. Peter. She invented a process to infuse precious metals into quartz which she named Millennium Quartz, she achieved this due to her drive and perseverance.
Don’t be surprised if in 5 years you see all the angels in the portraits wearing fire opal necklaces or their wings are covered in quartz. Along her incredible journey, she had 4 children, thought them the value and love for an education, hard work and how to live with dignity, not only by her words but by example. She finished her bachelor’s degree almost at 60 and was waiting to get better so she could finish her masters, hopefully she can enroll in heaven and finish there.
The love that she leaves behind will continue for eternity through her sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughters in law which she loved so much and considered as the daughters she never had, her sister and brother and friends which she cherished and respected until the very end. It was exactly the moment when she was assured by all of her children that she did an amazing job in raising them and that they would be fine to perpetuate her legacy that she agreed to let go and leave peacefully, because until the very end it was her family that she was worried about. .
