Burke, 82 years of age, died at home surrounded by family, in the early morning of December 28th, 2018, after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Helsinki, Finland in August 1936 to Unto and Suzanne Voionmaa. She migrated with her family to the United States in 1949 and became a United States citizen in 1955.

She received her high school diploma from The Hewlitt School in Islip, NY in 1955. She attended Pembroke College at Brown University for one year, and later received an A.A. degree from Lasell College in 1958 and a B.A. degree from Boston University in 1961. In 1962 she married the then 2nd Lt John F. Burke and set out on a 28-year career as an Air Force wife.

She lived in California, Washington, Alabama, Germany (twice for a total of 7 years) and New Jersey, before finally settling in Durham NH when her husband retired. She worked for several years at the Timberland Company in Stratham, finally retiring in 2000. In retirement she enjoyed skiing at Cannon Mountain, and playing Bridge with several groups in the Sea Coast area.

She was an avid golfer who was a 25-year member of Exeter Country Club. In later life she enjoyed family vacations on “Lake Winnie”. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John, her son William of Sparta NJ, her daughter Catherine of Carlisle KY, and her grandchildren Ian and Kaela.

Also two nephews and a niece. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Harry. A private memorial will take place at a later date.
