Katherine’s Obituary Cape Elizabeth – Ms. Katherine Ann FitzPatrick (Kate), 67, of Cape Elizabeth, died Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer. Kate loved and lived fiercely, in all things—her unwavering love for her daughters, grandchildren, husband, and family; the joy she felt in the outdoors; and her enthusiasm for gardening. An avid reader, writer, and artist, Kate lived her life with profound curiosity and passion.

Most of all, she was deeply empathetic and generous with her love, which she instilled in all who knew her. Kate devoted her life to raising her daughters, while putting herself through college. She later worked for various non-profits in Denver, Colorado, and Portland, Maine.

Her wanderlust took her to Woodstock and two cross-country hitchhiking trips from Maine to Hawaii as a teenager; to the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu; and homes in far-flung places, from a houseboat in Florida to a remote cabin high in the Colorado Rockies. Kate was predeceased by her parents, John D. and Gloria (Hurlock) FitzPatrick. She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Bell; daughters, Kimberly Welch, Anna Welch, and Leslie Person; sons-in-law, Matthew Ludwig, Wells Person, and Ari Bryen; siblings, Michael FitzPatrick, Timothy FitzPatrick, Joel FitzPatrick, and Lois Trumpeter; and grandchildren, James, Enzo, Michael, and Willa.

Kate was one of a kind, and she will be dearly missed. There will be a memorial service in summer 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to the Cravet Foundation for research on Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma.
