Obituary for Katherine E. Rohr Katherine (Kathy) E. Rohr, Age 87, November 21, 2018. Kathy was born April 4, 1931 to Frank and Clarice Van Laecke in Moline, Illinois. Beloved wife of the late John Rohr and mother of Lucinda and Van.
Kathy and John were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Moline, Illinois in 1951. Kathy was educated at the Villa de Chantel Catholic School in Rock Island, Illinois. Upon graduation, Kathy worked for the city of Moline where she met her future husband, John, who was a photo journalist for the Moline Dispatch.
His duties included covering news at City Hall. Accepting a career change for John, John and Kathy moved to Indiana where Lucinda and Van were born. Kathy was a loving homemaker as John’s career path took the family to Ohio and eventually to Ferndale, Michigan.
Kathy loved her home on Oakridge and the garden she created. She became an active member of the Ferndale Garden Club and later served several years as President. In 1969, Kathy became a member of the Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Royal Oak.
Upon John’s passing in 1993, Kathy became an active member of the Shrine Ladies Guild and served the guild and church for 24 years including two years as President of the guild. Kathy also served many years as the Coordinator for the Shrine Ladies Guild Funeral Lunch program. Kathy enjoyed the many friendships she had made over the years and the solace her service offered grieving families.
Kathy had a deep love of praying the Rosary and praying for the souls in Purgatory. Following the example of St. Therese, Kathy enjoyed “doing even the little things out of love” for family, friends and all those she served. Kathy was especially blessed to have close, loving relationships with her granddaughters, Veronica and Katherine.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Lucinda (Cindy) and her husband Neil Adams, her son, Van and his wife Shelby, her granddaughters, Veronica and her husband Nick Campbell, and Katherine Rohr, and her great granddaughter, Emelia Campbell. For over 30 years, family Sunday brunch at Kathy’s was a tradition. After great conversation and a hug and a kiss goodbye, “Keep the faith”, were words Kathy frequently offered to visiting family upon their departure.
