Obituary for Sylvia I. Thornton Thornton, Sylvia “Syl” (nee Reynolds), a lifetime resident of Royal Oak, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2018. She was 82. Born in Pontiac, Michigan on October 6, 1936 to the late Vern and Dorothy Reynolds, she was the oldest of three children.

Syl was a 1954 graduate of Royal Oak High School. She has been the bookkeeper at Fluidline Components for over 48 years. She loved to travel with family, spending time at the family cabin in Freesoil and spent the last 24 years wintering in Venice, Florida.

Known as the “Family Tree Sisters”, Syl co-authored and published the Reynolds family tree book with her late sister Joyce. Other pastimes were camping, crocheting numerous blankets, hats, scarfs, mittens and socks. She also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers.

Her family was especially important to her. Beloved wife of the late Raymond; devoted and loving mother of Gary (Sue) Thornton, Doug (Debbie) Thornton and Pam Strunk; proud grandmother of Paul (Sara) Thornton, Joe Thornton, Brian Strunk, Greg Strunk and Melissa (Jeff Myre) Strunk; dear great-grandmother of Jack, Brooklynn, Zack, Nolan, Sophia, Braylon, and Mia; sister of Robert (Connie) Reynolds and the late Joyce (Dick) Tenniswood; sister-in-law of Bob (Linda) Thornton and the late Sally (the late Jerry) Killebrew. Also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many dear and close friends.

She will be greatly missed. Funeral Service Thursday, November 15, 2018 – 11 a.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment at Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak. Arrangements in care of her niece at Modetz Funeral Home, Orion.
