Kathleen H. (Porter) Gutch, 91, of Hazlet, died on Monday, October 15, surrounded by her loving family. Kathleen was born in Jersey City on August 8, 1927, to Charles and Hazel Porter. She was a graduate of Holy Family Academy in Bayonne and earned her RN degree from the Jersey City Medical Center in 1948.
Kathleen met her husband John on a blind date in 1946. They married in January 1949, starting a union that lasted until his death in January 2018. Together they raised eleven children.
Kathleen worked as a nurse at Fairmont Hospital, Patrick House, and Saint Peter’s University, all in Jersey City. After retiring, she moved to Hazlet. An avid reader, raconteur, and puzzle enthusiast, Kathleen enjoyed cruising and traveling to religious shrines in Europe and Canada.
She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph Church/Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Keyport. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband John, her daughter Marie Goworek, and her sister Vera McNeil. She is survived by her ten loving children and their spouses: John Gutch Jr. and his wife Linda, Edward Gutch and his wife Bonnie, Charles Gutch and his wife Annette, James Gutch and his wife Maria, William Gutch and his wife Rachel, Robert Gutch and his wife Carolyn, Richard Gutch and his wife Eileen, Mary Gutch, Theresa Kwiatkowski and her husband Dr. Theodore Kwiatkowski, Kathleen Nestor and her husband Joseph, and her dear son-in-law John Goworek.
She is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Adam Kwiatkowski and his fiancée Melanie, Susan Kwiatkowski, Edward Gutch and his wife Jessica, Tiffany Ditzig and her husband Stephen, CJ and Daniel Gutch, John Goworek and his wife Jessica, Andrew Goworek and his wife Erin, James and Alexis Gutch, Julianne Nestor, Liam, Kayla, Jared, Matthew and Evan Gutch, Sheena Licata and her husband Chris, Ian, Brighid, Tadhg and Zane Gutch, along with her adored great grandchildren, Jason, Nicholas, Mila, Summer and Bryson. Kathleen will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday morning, October 19, 2018 from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning, October 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 376 Maple Place, Keyport, New Jersey 07735. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, 823 West Side Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey 07306. In lieu of flowers, the Gutch family would appreciate donations in Kathleen’s memory to St. Joseph Haiti Parish Program, PO Box 6, Middletown, New Jersey 07748.
