Kathleen M. Kassuba, 57, of Tustin, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2018, surrounded by family at her mother’s home in Bellaire. Kathy was born on July 26, 1961, in Bellaire, the daughter of Melvin and Mardell (Hierlihy) Dawson. Kathy grew up in Bellaire, graduating from Bellaire High School in 1979.

Her family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending beautiful summer days on Torch Lake. But the thing she enjoyed the most was being a grandma.

She was employed at Pine River Area Schools for the past 22 years. While there, she held various positions, most recently the Secretary to the Superintendent and the Board of Education. On June 12, 1982, in Bellaire, she married Mark E. Kassuba in a double ceremony with her sister Sue.

Her husband Mark E. Kassuba survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Nick (Kasey) Kassuba of Lake City, Jeff Kassuba of Tustin, Lauren (Grant) Rasmussen of Oceanside, CA, 2 grandchildren, Ben and Lucy Kassuba, her mother Mardell Dawson of Bellaire, a brother Bill (Sue) Dawson of Bellaire, sister Sue (Mark) Valley of Bellaire, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Melvin Dawson, a brother Terry Dawson, her grandparents, Coral and Ordon Hierlihy and Edward and Grace Dawson.

Visitation will take place on Friday, September 7, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Bergstrom officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire.
